16Volt Music video

The Electric Pope

We've been fans of industrial music since the 80's and, in particular, fans of 16Volt since they got their start in our hometown of Portland, OR. When our friend Jesse, of Wasteland Resources, let us know of the opportunity to work with 16Volt on a post apocalyptic themed music video for their new album The Negative Space, we couldn't say YES fast enough!

Shooting for The Electric Pope took place over two weekends and it was a delight working with everyone involved. Special props to the genius behind the camera, Karl Whinnery, for making us all look so awesome, Jesse Lindsay for the hookup, and of course Eric Powell for letting us come out and play!

Oddly, however, the video all but disappeared after it was released. Embedded below is a copy we snagged and kept unlisted on our YouTube channel. The only other active link is to a streaming site from Europe found here. The video is slightly NSFW with some quick nipple peeks. We can only guess to the reason why it disappeared but that may have had something to do with it. We'd help edit together a "family friendly" version given the opportunity.

Shooting Day 1

Screen grab from the video where you can just barely see us in the background. Awesome, right?

Look Ma, I'm in a music thingy!

Nipples are offensive.

Shooting on day 1 took place in two locations. The first was a really cool bar in Portland, called Stein Haus, where they sectioned off half of the inside space for filming and reserved the outside patio for those waiting for their turn in front of the camera. We were there for several hours before moving on to the second location.

Can't have a music video without half naked ladies in it. I think it's State law.

Cute selfie while we hangout between shots.

After finishing at the Stein Haus we moved on to our second location (which was Jesse's house). They had us pull the Daytona onto the back patio and piled it high with, you guessed it, half naked ladies!

We were a bit nervous with all the ladies climbing on the car but no one was hurt and the Daytona came away unscathed. Best of all everyone had a lot of fun.

It was a good night.

Shooting Day 2

Shooting for day 2, the following weekend, called for us to haul our whole wasteland setup out to the coast. The Daytona got to get out on the beach for a bunch of shots, the tower was used as a major set piece, and even the side of the trailer was used as a backdrop for close up stomping shots. We shot the tower and closeups first and then moved down to the beach to finish it off. All in all it was worth the effort and we'd jump at another opportunity.

Towing all this gear through the curvy coastal mountain range with no trailer brakes was super awesome by the way. They've since been fixed. Safety fourth.

Getting setup and testing out the tower.

Wasteland tested, Chelle approved.

Picture in picture.

Pretty much awesome from any angle.

Funny Story

I grew up in the Portland industrial scene of the early 90’s and 16Volt, for us, was a pretty big deal. When I first met Eric Powell sometime in the mid 90’s at a club that doesn’t exist anymore, he was a total dick to me. I remember being really angry about that. Still, I remained a fan of his work and fast forward 20 years to meeting him again... I’m happy to report he couldn’t have been nicer. I even told him this story and we both had a good laugh about it.
